The city of Chicago was rocked by a brutal and deadly crime spree that occurred in the early morning hours of February 11. Prosecutors have identified an 18-year-old man, Marquese Hill, and his 17-year-old accomplice as the perpetrators of the heinous acts. The duo reportedly traveled from Boystown to the Far South Side, where they killed two men in a series of carjackings and robberies.
The first victim, 22-year-old Darwin Tirado, was killed during a carjacking attempt near the corner of Waveland and Broadway in Boystown. Less than an hour later, 45-year-old Damon Kellum was murdered in the Oakland neighborhood. Kellum’s body was discovered in or near Tirado’s stolen Hyundai in the 3700 block of South Lake Park.
In addition to the murders, Hill and his accomplice allegedly attempted to carjack a 70-year-old man near the corner of 43rd and Wentworth and successfully carjacked a 38-year-old CTA worker in the 8600 block of South Lafayette Avenue. Hill also faces charges related to a carjacking that took place in the 7500 block of North Claremont in West Rogers Park on January 10.
Both Hill and the juvenile are facing multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, aggravated vehicular hijacking, and other felonies. Hill, who had previously faced a felony case for possession of crack cocaine, had the charges dropped by prosecutors just days before the crime spree.
