Man admits slur while mimicking Bondi Beach shooting

A young man has confessed to hurling a hateful slur at the Jewish community while mimicking the actions of the gunmen involved in the tragic Bondi massacre.

22-year-old Zayne Jason William McMillan was witnessed pretending to shoot at individuals from the pedestrian bridge at Bondi Beach on January 31 around 7pm.

This location was where two assailants unleashed gunfire on attendees at the Hanukkah by the Sea event on December 14, resulting in the loss of 15 lives and numerous injuries.

McMillan was taken into custody a few days later and, on Tuesday, admitted to three charges of engaging in offensive behavior in a public setting.

Court documents obtained by AAP reveal that the young man yelled “f*** the Jews” while feigning the use of a firearm.

Later that evening, McMillan repeated the same derogatory term while riding a Lime e-bike in and around Bondi Beach and Bondi Junction.

He has pleaded not guilty to two charges of intimidation involving two individuals he allegedly verbally abused shortly after the disturbing incident.

The case is scheduled to be reviewed at Waverley Local Court on March 10.

Prior to this incident, McMillan was denied bail due to being on parole at the time of the offenses, despite his lawyer arguing that his client, as an Indigenous Australian, would face hardships while incarcerated.

Another individual who was seen alongside McMillan on the bridge fled the scene.

NSW Opposition Leader Kellie Sloane, representing the Bondi beach area, condemned McMillan’s behavior as “completely abhorrent and insensitive.”

“He deserves to be put behind bars,” she stated to the press.
