A Rogers Park man, Donald Stoute, has been charged with shooting another driver near Navy Pier earlier this year, according to Chicago police. The 41-year-old is facing charges of aggravated battery by discharging a firearm in connection with the incident that occurred on June 3. Stoute is set to appear at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse for a detention hearing on Friday afternoon.

The shooting, which police say stemmed from a road rage altercation, took place in the 700 block of North Lake Shore Drive at around 11:27 a.m. on June 3. The victim, a 32-year-old man, reported to officers that he exchanged words with a man driving a black Jaguar SUV before the driver of the Jaguar opened fire, hitting him once in the elbow.

The victim managed to call 911 while driving towards Insight Hospital, but eventually pulled over in the 1500 block of South Wabash Avenue to meet responding officers. He was later taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition. Witnesses in the area reported hearing approximately three gunshots around the same time as the incident.

Further details about the incident and the investigation that led to Stoute’s arrest are expected to be revealed during his court appearance. The Chicago Police Department is expected to provide more information on how they identified Stoute as the alleged gunman.
