A tragic incident unfolded in Avondale earlier this week when a 55-year-old woman named Vanessa Hernandez was fatally stabbed. The suspect in this case, 25-year-old Victor Hernandez, has been charged with murder and is set to appear in court for a detention hearing on Saturday afternoon. Prosecutors are expected to provide further details about the case during this hearing.

The Chicago Police Department responded to a call on Wednesday at the 2800 block of North Woodard Street and discovered Vanessa Hernandez with multiple stab wounds to her face, neck, arm, and chest. It was reported that she had been involved in a physical altercation with an unknown male offender who then attacked her with a knife. A knife was later recovered from a rear porch area as evidence of the crime.

Vanessa Hernandez’s home was listed as the address on Woodard Street by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. Approximately two hours after the attack, Victor Hernandez was apprehended by officers in the 2200 block of South Lake Shore Drive. Initial reports suggest that he lived in the same residence as the victim and may be her son. He is facing two counts of murder in connection with this tragic incident.

This news comes as a shock to the Avondale community and serves as a reminder of the importance of public safety. The Chicago Police Department’s swift action in apprehending the suspect is commendable, and the upcoming court hearing will shed more light on the details of this case.

As we await further information from prosecutors, our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Vanessa Hernandez during this difficult time. The tragic loss of life in our community underscores the need for continued vigilance and support for law enforcement efforts to maintain public safety.
