A 24-year-old individual has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to the attempted murder of a rival gang member during an incident at a Chicago CTA station on a seemingly random occasion.
Judge Laura Ayala-Gonzalez handed down the sentence for Vidal Herazo after he entered a guilty plea for attempted murder, according to official court documents. With time already served and consideration for good behavior, he is projected to be released after serving three years, set for June 4, 2026.
Officials stated that Herazo confronted a rival gang member following a brief but tense exchange at the Roosevelt Red Line station late on June 16, 2023. Court documents reveal that Herazo disembarked from a train and made a Two-Six gang hand sign as he walked by the victim on the platform. The victim, identified as a Latin King, retaliated with his own gang sign, which instigated a physical confrontation.
