A shooting incident occurred in the 900 block of North Dearborn on Monday afternoon, where a 37-year-old man in a wheelchair was shot in the leg during an attempted robbery, as reported by Chicago police. The victim contacted 911 around 4:55 p.m. and informed authorities that he was moving from the intersection of Division and Clark when the robbery took place, resulting in him being shot in the left leg.

Upon arrival at the scene, first responders found the victim conscious and alert. He was quickly transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition. Interestingly, officers in the area did not hear any gunfire, and no other reports of gunshots were received through emergency calls. The victim mentioned that he did not recognize the perpetrator, but a witness described the shooter as a Black male wearing pink shorts.

Area Three detectives have commenced an investigation into the incident, as no suspects are currently in custody. This shooting marks the 35th incident on the Near North Side this year, with 18 of those victims being shot during a single event on July 2. The following is a breakdown of the shooting totals in River North for recent years:

– 2023: 14
– 2022: 45
– 2021: 18
– 2020: 17
– 2019: 23

It is evident that the number of shootings in the area has fluctuated over the years, with 2022 being a particularly high year for incidences. The victim’s reluctance to disclose further information suggests that he may know more than he is letting on, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
