Man Fatally Shot with Rifle in Wicker Park
Tragedy struck in Wicker Park overnight as a man fell victim to fatal rifle fire.
Authorities were alerted to gunfire in the 1500 block of North Honore Street around 1:47 a.m. Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered the victim in an alley near North Avenue.
The victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead. While the victim remained unidentified as of Saturday morning, Chicago police indicated that he appeared to be between 18 and 25 years old.
Witnesses recounted seeing a red SUV speeding away from the alley following the shooting. Police recovered four shell casings from rifle rounds at the crime scene.
This incident marks the second shooting in Wicker Park and Bucktown this year. The previous shooting occurred on June 28 in the 2200 block of West Cortland Street.
Despite this recent tragedy, there has been a decrease in shootings in the neighborhood compared to previous years. At this point last year, three individuals had been shot in Wicker Park and Bucktown. In 2023, there were nine victims, while in 2022 and 2021, there were six and nine victims respectively.
Editor’s note: Initially, it was believed that the first shooting of 2025 in all of Chicago took place in the neighborhood. However, police later discovered that the individual who was shot had provided erroneous information to authorities.

CWBChicago was established in 2013 by a group of Wrigleyville and Boystown residents disenchanted with the inaccurate information provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings.
Since then, our coverage area has expanded to include Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side areas. Nevertheless, our core mission remains unchanged: to deliver original public safety reporting with enhanced context and depth compared to mainstream media outlets.
