Chicago Man Accused of Robbery and Attempted Carjacking After Judge Orders Ankle Monitor Instead of Detention
A Chicago man, identified as 19-year-old Brandon Lucious, is facing charges of robbery and attempted carjacking in Lawndale just days after a judge opted to place him on an ankle monitor instead of detaining him on a domestic violence charge.
According to court records, on December 4, prosecutors requested Judge Sabra Ebersole to keep Lucious in custody after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend during an argument. However, Ebersole decided to place him on an ankle bracelet through the Chief Judge’s electronic monitoring program.
Less than a week later, on December 10 around 8 p.m., Lucious allegedly approached two women in the 1200 block of South Lawndale Avenue. He reportedly pinned one of the women against a parked vehicle, demanded her keys and phone, and indicated he had a weapon. The woman complied with his demands.
When the woman’s cousin intervened and asked Lucious to return the belongings, he eventually gave them back. However, as the women moved towards the cousin’s vehicle, Lucious followed them and demanded the keys while displaying what appeared to be a gun under his jacket.
Shortly after, a police squad car arrived on the scene, prompting Lucious to flee. He was apprehended by authorities eight minutes later in the vicinity, although he no longer had the alleged weapon in his possession.
Lucious now faces charges of two counts of attempted vehicular hijacking and one count of aggravated robbery. Judge John Hock has ordered him to be detained in light of the recent incidents.
