A man named Robert Flora has been accused of shooting two guests at a late-summer birthday party in Pilsen. The shocking incident allegedly occurred because Flora was angry about not being able to find his phone, according to prosecutors. Flora, 37, was arrested on November 20 and charged with two counts of aggravated battery by discharging a firearm.

The incident took place on August 31 in the 1900 block of West 17th Street. Police responded to reports of shots fired at 1:39 a.m. and found two men, aged 41 and 45, with gunshot wounds to their legs. According to prosecutors, Flora was at the same party as the victims and became enraged over his missing phone. He reportedly started causing trouble with multiple people at the party before taking out a revolver.

During the confrontation, Flora allegedly pointed the revolver at one man’s head, then shot him in the leg. He then turned to the second victim and shot him in the leg as well. Both victims later identified Flora as the shooter in photo lineups, along with two other partygoers who were present at the time of the incident.

Flora was ordered detained by Judge Luciano Panici Jr. following his arrest. The seriousness of the charges against him, aggravated battery by discharging a firearm, reflects the gravity of his alleged actions at the birthday party. The motive behind Flora’s violent outburst, stemming from something as trivial as a missing phone, is deeply concerning.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of gun violence and the devastating impact it can have on innocent individuals. It is crucial for law enforcement to thoroughly investigate such cases and hold perpetrators accountable for their actions. Our thoughts are with the victims of this senseless act of violence, and we hope for their swift recovery.
