A man who served a 3-year federal prison sentence for a bank robbery in the Loop in 2021 is now facing charges for allegedly robbing 3 banks in the Loop on Monday morning, with two of those attempts unsuccessful.

Timothy Brown, 62, was charged by federal prosecutors for robbing the Fifth Third Bank at 2 South LaSalle Street. Investigators claim that Brown attempted to rob two other banks inside the Chicago Board of Trade Building before successfully robbing the third bank and making off with approximately $920.

Brown has a history with law enforcement, having been previously apprehended for a bank robbery in 2021. In that case, he was tracked from the scene of the crime to a homeless encampment in Chinatown, where he was found in possession of stolen money and medical records linking him to the robbery. Brown pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 3 years in federal prison.

According to the latest complaint, Brown entered the Chase Bank inside the Board of Trade wearing specific clothing and demanded $10,000. When the teller secured her computer and moved to a safe area, Brown left empty-handed. He then attempted to rob the Lakeside Bank branch but was interrupted by the manager and security guard, fleeing with only a piece of candy.

Finally, Brown made his way to the Fifth Third Bank at LaSalle and Madison streets, where he successfully obtained $920 by threatening a teller. Chicago police officers later apprehended Brown near 29th and State, recovering a portion of the stolen money from his possession.
