19-Year-Old Man Sentenced to 18 Years in Prison for Rape on CTA Blue Line Train

A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for raping a woman aboard a CTA Blue Line train on the Northwest Side and assaulting a correctional officer while in custody, according to court records.

Tyshawn Robinson, who was 17 at the time of the April 29, 2024, attack, pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual assault during the commission of another felony and was sentenced by Judge Charles Burns.

Surveillance footage from the CTA showed Robinson and the 38-year-old victim on the same train when he attempted to touch her near the Addison station around midnight, officials reported.

The woman tried to move away, but Robinson followed her, eventually grabbing and pulling her onto his lap. When she attempted to break free, Robinson put her in a chokehold with his arm and forearm, preventing her escape, prosecutors revealed.

Robinson then forced the woman over a seat in the car and sexually assaulted her multiple times as she fought back. The assault, described as “prolonged,” took place in front of witnesses. He fled the scene when the train’s operator entered the car, but was apprehended by Chicago police shortly thereafter.

Judge Burns sentenced Robinson to 15 years for the sexual assault, mandated him to register as a sex offender, and comply with other conditions. In addition, Robinson received a consecutive three-year sentence for aggravated battery of a peace officer, a charge he acquired while in custody.
