A man from Des Plaines has received a five-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to charges related to a violent robbery and an attempted kidnapping captured on surveillance video in Bridgeport two years ago.
Raymond Marshall, 36, entered a guilty plea for aggravated robbery in front of Judge Thomas Byrne. In return, prosecutors agreed to dismiss 10 additional felony charges against him, which included multiple counts of armed robbery and kidnapping, according to court documents.
The incident, which occurred in October 2023, involved Marshall and an accomplice targeting a 35-year-old man in what appeared to be a random act of violence in the 3600 block of South Morgan Street. As the victim arrived home and opened his garage at approximately 4:50 p.m., an armed associate confronted him and pushed a gun to his head.

During the assault, Marshall and his accomplice forced the victim to the ground, handcuffing his hands behind him. Prosecutors reported that Marshall used a Taser on the victim’s head, neck, and wrist while attempting to drag him into a Cadillac Escalade.
The victim yelled for assistance, questioning the attackers’ motives. As a witness tried to help, one of the assailants brandished a firearm, commanding the bystander to retreat. The pair abandoned their kidnapping attempt as shocked neighbors observed the scene.
Marshall fled the area on foot while his accomplice drove off in the Escalade. A Chicago police officer arrived at the scene, attempted to intercept the vehicle, and saw Marshall escaping. The officer relayed a description that led to Marshall’s arrest shortly after. He was found wearing a mask, sunglasses, and gloves, with the victim’s phone and a Taser located near the scene of the arrest.
The entire encounter was captured on at least three separate cameras, with segments later shared with CWBChicago.
Under state law, possessing good behavior credits and additional credits earned during his time in Cook County Jail will allow Marshall to potentially be paroled on November 10.
