LAFC kicked off their MLS season opener in style by defeating Inter Miami 3-0, with goals from David Martinez, Denis Bouanga, and Nathan Ordaz. Despite the convincing scoreline, Inter Miami’s head coach, Javier Mascherano, felt that the result did not accurately reflect the game’s overall performance.

Mascherano acknowledged that LAFC were deserving winners but emphasized that the scoreline was somewhat misleading. He expressed his belief that there wasn’t a significant difference in the run of play between the two teams. The Argentine coach highlighted the need for his team to improve, build on their positives, rectify mistakes, and continue progressing.

In possession, Lionel Messi and his teammates dominated with 69% of the ball but struggled to convert their chances. Inter Miami managed only two shots on target out of their 10 attempts, while LAFC had five shots on target out of 13 attempts.

Following the match, LAFC head coach Marc dos Santos revealed that his team had prepared meticulously for Lionel Messi, whom he considered to be Inter Miami’s biggest threat. Dos Santos explained that they focused on marking Messi closely and ensuring multiple players were covering him at all times. This tactical approach paid off as LAFC successfully neutralized Messi’s influence on the game.

Dos Santos praised his team’s defensive efforts but acknowledged that there is room for improvement in possession. He emphasized the need to enhance their performance when in control of the ball.

Lionel Messi showcased his class by attempting four shots, completing 36 out of 49 passes, making three key passes, and attempting one dribble. However, he lost possession 23 times during the game.

Looking ahead, Inter Miami will face Orlando City in their next match on March 1. The team will be eager to bounce back from their defeat and showcase an improved performance on the field.

In conclusion, LAFC’s comprehensive victory over Inter Miami highlighted their strong start to the MLS season. With a blend of solid defense and clinical finishing, they outplayed their opponents and secured a convincing win. Both teams will now look to build on their performances and make further strides in the upcoming matches.
