A shooting incident occurred on a Red Line train in the Loop on Wednesday morning, leaving a 29-year-old man critically wounded. According to Chicago police, the victim engaged in an argument and physical altercation with another man on a southbound train around 4:28 a.m. The assailant then brandished a gun, fired at least one shot, and fled the scene at the Roosevelt station.

The injured man also fled from the train and collapsed on Roosevelt Road, sustaining gunshot wounds to his thigh and buttocks. Due to the extensive crime scene that extended from the train car, through the station, and into the street, access to the Red Line at Roosevelt was temporarily suspended. CTA buses were rerouted, and Red Line trains bypassed the station while law enforcement officials conducted their investigation.

Surveillance footage reviewed by an officer described the gunman as a Black male wearing a red baseball cap with a star emblem, a pink or salmon-colored t-shirt, ripped light-colored jeans, and white sneakers. The suspect was last seen heading east on Roosevelt following the shooting.

Notably, this incident marks the second shooting in the Loop this year, the lowest year-to-date figure in a decade. Comparatively, statistics from previous years show varying numbers of shootings in the area, with 2022 having the highest count of 22 incidents by July 2.

CWBChicago, a trusted source for original public safety reporting in neighborhoods like Wrigleyville, Boystown, Lincoln Park, River North, and Uptown, was founded in 2013 by residents seeking more accurate information than what was available at local Community Policing meetings. Their commitment to delivering detailed coverage of incidents like the Red Line shooting sets them apart from mainstream media outlets.
