A recent shooting incident outside a popular pizzeria in River North has left a man injured but in good condition. The altercation took place on the sidewalk in the 400 block of North Wells on Friday evening, with the victim being shot in the left forearm by another man involved in the fight. The incident occurred outside a busy Lou Malnati’s location, with diners enjoying the start of the summer weekend.
According to Chicago police, the gunman, described as a Black male wearing a khaki t-shirt and a red backpack, fled towards the Loop on a black E-bike after the shooting. So far this year, 13 people have been shot on the Near North Side, which is an increase from the same period last year. In the River North neighborhood specifically, seven people have been shot this year, with the numbers fluctuating compared to previous years.
CWBChicago, a local public safety reporting platform, keeps track of various types of shooting incidents in its tally, including accidental self-inflicted injuries, police shootings, and self-defense cases. The platform was established in 2013 by residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the accuracy of information provided at community policing meetings. Over the years, CWBChicago has expanded its coverage area to include Lincoln Park, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side areas, while maintaining its commitment to delivering original public safety reporting with in-depth context and detail.
