Man Shot in Gold Coast, Gunman at Large

A 26-year-old man is recovering after being shot in the Gold Coast overnight. The incident took place in the early hours of the morning when Chicago police officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area.

According to police radio traffic, CPD units found the victim in the first block of East Goethe with a gunshot wound to his right leg. Quick action by the officers to apply a tourniquet helped slow down the blood loss.

The suspect, described as a Black male wearing a blue top with a white t-shirt underneath and gray pants, fled the scene in a gray vehicle. A firearm was recovered at the scene, and evidence markers indicated the presence of shell casings near the victim and in a nearby parking lot.

Chicago Police did not provide further details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting. This incident marks the eighth shooting on the Near North Side this year, including an incident involving Chicago police officers earlier in the week.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings.

Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. Our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
