22-Year-Old Man Shot During Robbery Attempt in Edgewater
Chicago police reported that a 22-year-old man was shot during a robbery attempt in Edgewater on Friday night. The incident occurred on the 5000 block of North Winthrop around 11:20 p.m.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, sought treatment at Weiss Hospital the following evening. According to the victim’s account to law enforcement, he was approached by a group of six men who attempted to forcibly take his belongings. Gunfire erupted during the altercation, resulting in the victim sustaining a gunshot wound to his neck.
This unfortunate incident marks the sixth shooting in Edgewater this year. Notably, one of the previous shootings involved a man who accidentally shot himself last month. The current count of shootings in Edgewater is consistent with the figures from the previous year. In 2023, Edgewater recorded only five shootings throughout the entire year.
Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward with information. The safety and security of residents in the Edgewater community remain a top priority for local law enforcement.
