A 36-year-old man was shot on a Rogers Park street on Wednesday night, adding to his long and violent history in the neighborhood. This man has a criminal record that includes prison sentences for firing at a car full of people and shooting someone in a previous incident.

Chicago Police Department officers were on patrol near the Howard CTA station when they heard gunshots around 9:22 p.m. 911 callers directed them to the 7600 block of North Paulina Street, where the victim had been shot in the street. The wounded man sought refuge in a nearby apartment building after being hit and reportedly lost a significant amount of blood before paramedics arrived. He was rushed to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston and is currently in critical condition.

Eight shell casings were found at the scene, but CPD did not provide a description of the gunman responsible for the shooting. This incident marks the third shooting in Rogers Park this year, following a shooting of a 17-year-old boy on February 15 just one block away in the 7700 block of North Paulina Street.

While the victim’s name is not disclosed by CWB Chicago, records indicate that he has a history of involvement in local shootings, often as the perpetrator. He was previously incarcerated during the pandemic for firing at a car full of people in Rogers Park. Court records also show that he was convicted of shooting someone in 2006, with three additional gun-related cases on his criminal record.

CWB Chicago was founded in 2013 by residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the accuracy of information provided at local Community Policing meetings. The coverage area has since expanded to include Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side areas, while the mission remains focused on delivering original public safety reporting with in-depth context.
