A shooting incident occurred in a Rogers Park alley on Sunday evening, resulting in a 32-year-old man being shot in the right leg. This marks the 13th shooting victim in the neighborhood this year, with two more victims compared to the same time last year.
The incident took place in an alley behind the 2000 block of West Chase when an unidentified man fired around five rounds at the victim around 7:56 p.m. Fortunately, there was a family gathering nearby, but no other injuries were reported. Witnesses mentioned that the gunman fled on a scooter towards the south and described him as Hispanic, wearing a black mask and all-gray clothing.
The victim was taken to St. Francis Hospital in fair condition, according to the Chicago Police Department. Comparing this year’s tally of 13 shooting victims to previous years, there were 11 victims in 2024, 15 in 2023, 12 in 2022, and 10 in 2021. It is important to note that the tally includes accidental self-inflicted gunshot injuries, police-involved shootings, and incidents of self-defense, with each category accounting for one or fewer incidents in the total provided.
