A shocking incident unfolded on a Seattle freeway on Christmas Day, as a meth-fueled maniac stole a Washington State Patrol lieutenant’s patrol car in a brazen heist. The suspect, identified as Alexander Eugene Smith, 24, allegedly dragged the lieutenant from her patrol car and sped away on Interstate 5, sparking a wild police chase that ended with authorities ramming into the stolen cruiser to bring it to a halt.
The dramatic events began when the lieutenant responded to reports of a man wandering across the lanes of the freeway around 11 a.m. Smith was captured on jaw-dropping footage sauntering across the highway, approaching the patrol car, and forcibly removing the officer from the driver’s seat before driving off.
Multiple troopers immediately pursued the stolen cruiser, eventually pinning it to the shoulder and taking Smith into custody. The lieutenant reportedly suffered minor injuries during the carjacking, and several police cars were damaged in the effort to stop the fleeing suspect.
Upon his arrest, Smith, who initially refused to identify himself, admitted to smoking meth earlier in the day. Police found drug paraphernalia on him at the scene, leading to charges of robbery, felony eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, assault on a law enforcement officer, and driving under the influence.
Despite his charges, Smith refused to attend his arraignment and is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday. He is currently being held at the King County jail.
