FC Cincinnati midfielder Marco Angulo tragically passed away at the age of 22, five weeks after being involved in a serious car accident. Angulo, who was on loan at LDU Quito in Ecuador at the time of the accident, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital on November 11.

The news of Angulo’s death was met with deep sadness by both FC Cincinnati and LDU Quito. FC Cincinnati released a statement expressing their grief over the loss of Angulo, describing him as a beloved member of their team and a bright, kind-hearted individual. LDU Quito also paid tribute to Angulo, offering their condolences to his family and friends and remembering him as a talented player and a great teammate.

Angulo was one of five individuals in the car that crashed in the Ecuadorean capital on October 7, resulting in three fatalities including Angulo, Roberto Cabezas Simisterra, and Victor Charcopa Nazareno. Angulo, who had earned three caps for the Ecuador national team, began his career with Independiente Juniors before moving on to Independiente del Valle and eventually joining FC Cincinnati.

During his time with FC Cincinnati, Angulo made 30 first-team appearances before being loaned out to LDU Quito for the current season. His final match for LDU Quito took place on October 6, just one day before the tragic accident that ultimately claimed his life. Angulo leaves behind his wife and young son, and his loss has left a profound impact on the soccer community in Ecuador and beyond.

The Ecuadorian Football Federation also paid tribute to Angulo, highlighting his talent on the field and his positive influence as a teammate. The tragic passing of Angulo serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment with loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with Angulo’s family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
