Former US Marine, Zachary Perez, is facing horrifying allegations of child abuse after being caught on home surveillance footage repeatedly kicking and yanking his 6-year-old stepson on a dog leash. The disturbing videos show Perez parading the young boy through their Miami home with a pink leash wrapped around his neck, violently jerking him to the ground, and chasing him with a stick.
Prosecutors described Perez as a “ticking time bomb” capable of hurting anyone, as he was also seen forcing the boy to walk outside wearing a backpack filled with rocks during the two-day ordeal. The abuse left the child with swollen eyes, scratches, rash from the dog collar, and marks from being whipped with tree branches.
The boy’s mother, Barbara Perez, claimed that her son now suffers from PTSD, a traumatic brain injury, and hearing problems as a result of Perez’s alleged cruelty. Perez’s attorney argued that the mother gave permission for discipline, but prosecutors dismissed this claim due to lack of evidence.
Since Perez’s arrest for aggravated child abuse, multiple individuals, including his 14-year-old daughter, have come forward with additional allegations of abuse. Despite initially being denied bail, Perez was released on house arrest with strict conditions, including staying away from his stepson and the boy’s mother.
Perez is scheduled to appear in court on August 28 to face the charges against him. The case has sparked outrage and concern over the safety and well-being of children in abusive environments. It serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals from harm and holding perpetrators of abuse accountable for their actions.
