A shocking incident occurred in Brooklyn over the weekend when a masked stranger attempted to rip a 6-year-old Hasidic boy out of his father’s arms. The perpetrator, identified as Stephan Stowe, 28, with a history of 33 prior arrests, was arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping following the brazen daylight attack. The incident took place in Crown Heights as the father was walking with his two sons on Kingston Avenue near Empire Boulevard.
Surveillance footage captured the moment when the assailant approached the family and tried to snatch the young boy, lifting him into the air before the father intervened and rescued his son. The father acted swiftly, pulling his son away and delivering a punch to the would-be abductor’s stomach. Shomrim, a volunteer neighborhood patrol serving NYC’s Jewish community, reported that no words were exchanged during the incident, leaving the motive behind the attack unclear.
Stowe, a member of the G-Stone Crips gang, was also charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child and harassment. He was held without bail following his arraignment and is known for his criminal history, including a recent arrest in August for strangling his girlfriend during a heated argument over a cell phone. The altercation escalated, leading to Stowe physically assaulting the woman and causing damage to the property.
In a separate incident in April of 2023, Stowe was arrested for possession of firearms, drugs, and other illegal items in his apartment. He was ordered to post bail or bond in that case, raising questions about his continued involvement in criminal activities. With 25 sealed prior arrests and a history of weapon possession charges, Stowe’s criminal record paints a troubling picture of his behavior.
