Mayor Adams expressed concerns that New York City would become a crime-ridden dystopia if socialist Zohran Mamdani were to become the mayor, citing Mamdani’s anti-cop and soft-on-crime agenda as potential contributors to increased crime rates.

Adams, a former NYPD captain, criticized Mamdani’s proposal to drastically reduce the population of Rikers Island and have social workers respond to domestic violence calls instead of police officers, stating that these policies would have detrimental effects on the city.

He recalled the tragic deaths of NYPD officers Wilbert Mora and Jason Rivera, who were shot while responding to a domestic violence call, emphasizing the dangers of implementing such changes in the city.

Adams also addressed the lawsuit filed against him by former top cop Tom Donlon, dismissing it as baseless and politically motivated, and expressed his support for Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch and her efforts to combat crime in the city.

Despite facing challenges and criticism, Adams remained confident in his ability to lead the city and highlighted his track record of addressing issues such as bail reform and public safety.

As the mayoral election approaches, Adams acknowledged the competition he faces from other candidates but expressed his determination to share his story with voters and continue working towards a safer and more secure New York City.

Mamdani did not respond to messages, but both Cuomo’s team and Sliwa mentioned the Donlan lawsuit as one of the reasons they feel Adams should be replaced.

“Ask anyone in this city, and they’ll tell you they don’t feel safe because they aren’t,” stated Sliwa, the founder of the Guardian Angels crime-prevention group.

“No one is convinced by what [Adams] is advocating for,” said Cuomo spokesperson Rich Azzopardi.

Despite Adams painting a bleak picture of Gotham if Mamdani becomes mayor, he expressed no interest in leaving NYC, even if it’s governed by a socialist.

“I’m a New Yorker,” he affirmed. “I will continue to stay here and fight for the city. The city is worth fighting for.”
