Los Angeles Mayor Implements Curfew Amid Riots
In a sudden shift after four days of leniency towards rioters and vocal criticism of President Donald Trump for deploying California National Guard troops, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced a curfew for downtown L.A. The curfew, which begins at 8 p.m. PDT on Tuesday and ends at 6 a.m. Wednesday, comes with a mere two hours’ notice.
The Trump administration’s attempts to enforce immigration laws in the sanctuary city of Los Angeles have faced fierce opposition from protestors and derision from Governor Gavin Newsom, Mayor Bass, and numerous other Democratic officials. This backdrop of tension has culminated in the mayor’s recent decision to impose a curfew.
At a press conference, Bass stated, âI issued a curfew starting tonight at 8 p.m. for Downtown Los Angeles to stop bad actors who are taking advantage of the Presidentâs chaotic escalation. If you do not live or work in Downtown L.A., avoid the area. Law enforcement will arrest individuals who break the curfew, and you will be prosecuted.â
