The expansion of AI infrastructure continues at a rapid pace. With hundreds of billions of dollars annually invested in data centers and GPUs, computing expenses now represent the most significant cost for companies developing AI products. Despite this substantial investment, there is still no clear-cut method for pricing compute resources or for companies to mitigate risks when prices fluctuate.
Silicon Data has recently secured $30 million in Series A funding to address this issue. The startup’s goal is to establish itself as the standard reference for GPU rental pricing and create an index for Wall Street futures contracts. The company intends to launch its compute futures trading on the CME on October 5th, pending regulatory approval.
In a recent episode of JS’s Equity podcast, Rebecca Bellan talks with Steve Hou, head of research at Silicon Data, about the ongoing growth of AI infrastructure and why the data suggests a different reality than the pessimistic headlines concerning depreciating chips and stalled data centers.
