Meghan Markle Reportedly Has No Plans to See Father After Leg Amputation
Meghan Markle has reportedly decided not to visit her father, Thomas Markle, as he recovers in the hospital following a leg amputation. The 81-year-old underwent life-saving surgery in the Philippines after doctors discovered a massive blood clot in his leg. Despite the seriousness of his condition, Thomas has expressed his desire not to “die estranged from Meghan” after years of strained relations with his daughter.
Since Meghan’s marriage to Prince Harry in 2018, she has not seen her father. Reports suggest that she tried to reach out to him by phone and email, but when unsuccessful, she resorted to sending him a hand-delivered letter. However, sources claim that Meghan believes her father’s continued interactions with the media, which she addressed in her letter, make any chance of reconciliation slim.
The rift between Meghan and Thomas began before the royal wedding, when Thomas collaborated with a paparazzi photographer to stage photos near his home in Mexico. Following this incident, he suffered two heart attacks and had to miss the wedding. Thomas has never met his son-in-law, Prince Harry, or his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet.
Despite their estrangement, Thomas had been a significant presence in Meghan’s life, supporting her acting career in Los Angeles after her parents’ divorce when she was a child. Meghan once praised her father in a Father’s Day post on her blog, calling him “thoughtful, inspiring, and hardworking.”
Recently, it was revealed that Thomas had been battling for his life in the hospital in the Philippines, where he moved to be closer to his son. In an emotional interview, he expressed his desire to reconcile with Meghan and meet his grandchildren. Thomas is now out of intensive care and undergoing physiotherapy as he prepares for months of rehabilitation and the possibility of a prosthetic limb.
