Megyn Kelly delivered a sharp rebuttal to a college student at a Turning Point USA event on Wednesday, who attempted to draw a connection between President Trump’s “rhetoric” and the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
Kelly took the stage at Virginia Tech to lead the second TPUSA campus event following the tragic death of Kirk, the organization’s founder, and quickly challenged the student’s remarks regarding the murdered conservative activist.
“Why do you support a president who contributes to the rhetoric that resulted in your friend Charlie Kirk being killed?” the student, sporting a disheveled appearance, inquired. “At a recent rally, he declared, ‘I hate my enemies.’”
The vocal conservative figure wasted no time in dismissing what she deemed a disingenuous attempt to expose a contradiction within conservative beliefs, as illustrated in a video clip.
“This is emblematic of the problem,” Kelly stated, as the audience began to heckle the questioning student. “That statement is a flat-out lie—it’s defamatory and completely inappropriate in this context.”
As the student tried to defend his position, arguing that Trump had “contributed to the atmosphere” leading to Kirk’s assassination, Kelly firmly rebutted.
“Then your argument is fundamentally flawed; it holds no weight. ‘Contributing to the atmosphere’? Let’s be clear, [Tyler Robinson] was influenced by leftist ideology,” the popular podcaster asserted, eliciting enthusiastic applause from the engaged audience.
“We know it based on the bullet casings, we know it from statements made by the Utah governor, and from his own mother,” Kelly continued amidst approval from the crowd.
The visibly uncomfortable student nearly lost his composure as he pressed further, questioning whether it was acceptable to incite violence against liberals and referenced Trump’s remarks at Kirk’s memorial, wherein the president stated he does not forgive his enemies.
Kelly responded decisively, “The president of the United States does not condone violence against liberals.”
“It’s completely standard for a politician to consider their political battles. Furthermore, Trump has every right to despise his adversaries—they attempted to imprison him for life, tried to bankrupt him, endeavored to incarcerate his family, and even aimed to end his life,” Kelly emphasized as the right-leaning audience cheered in support.
The liberal student then attempted to pivot to a discussion about the former special prosecutor Jack Smith but ultimately chose to abandon the microphone.
Kelly took the initiative to calm the audience, who started booing at the interruption.
“It’s essential to have differing opinions expressed,” Kelly remarked.
The TPUSA “American Comeback Tour” event, featuring Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, is the second of eleven planned campus events held in tribute to Charlie Kirk.
