An 18-year-old man has been implicated in a series of violent muggings that took place earlier this year in the River North neighborhood of Chicago. The Chicago police have revealed that the man was part of a robbery crew that would pose as “friendly strangers” before attacking and robbing late-night bar patrons in the downtown area.

The police issued community alerts in June and July after identifying a pattern of robberies targeting intoxicated victims leaving bars. The offenders would initially act friendly towards the victims before suddenly turning violent and stealing their belongings. These attacks typically occurred in the late-night hours as bars and restaurants were closing for the night.

The newly charged man is accused of participating in four of these robberies. He allegedly helped mug a 24-year-old man on North Wabash Avenue, a 26-year-old man on North Dearborn Street, a 28-year-old man on North State Street, and a 52-year-old man on North Lower Michigan Avenue. Despite being involved in these crimes, the man has not been publicly identified as he was a minor at the time of the attacks.

The Chicago Police Department did not disclose how they identified the man as one of the offenders in the robbery pattern. The case against him will be handled in juvenile court, where records are kept confidential from the public eye.

CWBChicago, a local news outlet, first reported on these incidents. Their original reporting provides essential information that is not covered by mainstream media outlets. The mission of CWBChicago is to deliver accurate and detailed public safety reporting for various neighborhoods in Chicago, including River North, Lincoln Park, The Loop, and more.

The incidents of violent muggings in River North serve as a reminder to always be cautious and aware of your surroundings, especially when leaving late-night establishments. It is essential to stay vigilant and avoid interactions with strangers who may have malicious intentions.
