The Golden Bachelor Star Mel Owens Apologizes for Age Limit Comments

Star of “Golden Bachelor” Season 2, Mel Owens, has recently expressed regret for the controversial comments he made regarding age limits for contestants on the dating reality show. In a candid interview with Glamour, Owens admitted that his remarks were a mistake and acknowledged the insensitivity of his words. He stated, “It’s unfair. It’s insensitive, like I said. And I want to earn it back,” referring to the trust of those affected. Owens emphasized that he is committed to making amends for his comments and earning back the respect of viewers and contestants alike.

During an appearance on the “In the Trenches” podcast, Owens had previously made controversial statements about cutting women over the age of 60 and expressing preferences for contestants who were in good physical shape. He had also mentioned avoiding casting individuals with certain physical attributes like artificial hips or wigs.

Despite his initial comments, Owens has since expressed remorse and a willingness to learn from his mistakes. He revealed that he apologized to the contestants while filming “The Golden Bachelor,” acknowledging the unfairness and insensitivity of his earlier remarks. Owens sought to make amends with the women on the show, asking for a chance to earn back their trust and respect.

Looking ahead to the upcoming season of “Golden Bachelor,” Owens shared his hopes of finding a partner who is a “lifetime learner” and shares his enthusiasm for staying fit, enjoying life, and being energetic. He emphasized the importance of personal growth and living life to the fullest.

As the new star of “Golden Bachelor,” Owens follows in the footsteps of Gerry Turner, who chose Theresa Nist as the winner in the show’s first season. Despite their televised wedding, Turner and Nist later announced their divorce. The upcoming season of “Golden Bachelor” is set to premiere on Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, promising new drama, romance, and hopefully a chance for Owens to redeem himself in the eyes of viewers.
