The mother of missing 9-year-old Melodee Buzzard from California, Ashlee Buzzard, has been arrested on false imprisonment charges after allegedly holding a friend hostage with a boxcutter. The friend, Tyler Brewer, had offered to help find Melodee when Ashlee revealed where she had left her daughter, somewhere in Utah. However, Ashlee became distressed after sharing this information and refused to let Brewer leave her home, using multiple locks to secure the door.
Brewer managed to escape and reported the incident to authorities, expressing uncertainty about the accuracy of the information Ashlee had shared due to her troubled mental state. Ashlee’s family has also raised concerns about her mental health, noting a decline since the death of Melodee’s father in 2016. Melodee was last seen near the Utah-Colorado border on October 9 and was reported missing on October 14 after not attending her homeschooling program for over a year.
Security footage captured Ashlee and Melodee on a mysterious road trip to Nebraska, with Ashlee returning home alone on October 10. During the trip, she changed license plates on her rental car and wore wigs to avoid detection. Despite efforts by investigators to locate Melodee, Ashlee has been uncooperative and has not provided any information about her daughter’s whereabouts.
The case has now attracted the attention of federal authorities, with Melodee’s disappearance remaining a mystery. The haunting security footage of the last known images of the young girl before she vanished adds to the urgency of finding her. Ashlee’s actions, including the alleged hostage situation with Brewer, have only deepened the concern surrounding Melodee’s whereabouts and well-being.
