The Defamation Trial Against MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell Begins in Denver

The defamation trial against MyPillow CEO and prominent election denier Mike Lindell has kicked off in Denver with the selection of a jury. The case revolves around allegations of false criminal conduct made by Lindell, described as “unprecedented in American history.”

Eric Coomer, a former director at Dominion Voting Systems, filed a lawsuit against Lindell, accusing him of targeting Coomer with baseless claims related to the 2020 presidential election. Coomer alleges that Lindell’s actions have caused him severe emotional and physical distress.

The trial, expected to last two weeks, began with jury selection. Prospective jurors were questioned about their news sources, social media usage, views on former President Trump, the January 6th Capitol riot, and opinions on Lindell’s company, MyPillow.

Following Trump’s election loss, Dominion Voting Systems became a focal point of conspiracy theories alleging election rigging. Dominion has filed multiple lawsuits over these claims, including a settlement with Fox News for nearly $800 million.

Lindell, a staunch Trump supporter, amplified these conspiracy theories on his platforms, according to Coomer’s lawsuit. Coomer, who has worked in the election industry for over 15 years, alleges that he can no longer continue in his field due to the distrust fueled by Lindell’s false accusations.

Despite dismissing the lawsuit as frivolous and claiming ignorance of Coomer, Lindell reiterated his stance on election fraud. He called for a return to paper ballots and portrayed the trial as a battle between good and evil.

Coomer is seeking a retraction of defamatory statements and monetary damages from Lindell. The trial is set to continue with opening arguments scheduled for the coming days.
