Miley Cyrus Says Father Billy Ray Cried at Peace Offering Song

Miley Cyrus mentioned that her song “Secrets” deepened her connection with her father—and it was the emotional content that brought him to tears!

The talented singer-songwriter shared the heartfelt wordings during an interview with “CBS Sunday Mornings,” putting the spotlight on her relationship with Billy Ray Cyrus.

Miley shared that she initially found it difficult to visualize herself giving the song directly to her dad; however, she kept imagining a white flag fluttering as a metaphor for peace as she penned the lyrics.

Though Miley’s godmother Dolly Parton and her mother Tish got to hear the song first, when Billy Ray finally experienced it, she says he couldn’t contain his emotion.

Miley stated that she gifted the song to him on his birthday, leading him to weep, mentioning it was the first time he’s shed tears since his father’s funeral.

Miley added that she and her father managed to move past old grievances without directly addressing them, with the song serving as their form of family therapy—studio sessions in place of traditional counseling!

It’s worth noting that there had been emotional distance between Billy Ray and Miley, especially since Billy and Tish Cyrus’s sudden separation in April 2022.

Miley had previously discussed her estrangement from her father during an interview with the New York Times, sharing her experience of bearing the weight of her mother’s pain over the years due to her relationship with Billy Ray.
