Minnesota GOP Lawmaker Accuses Gov. Walz of Ignoring Day Care Fraud Warnings

MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz has been accused by a Republican state lawmaker of turning a blind eye to repeated warnings about potential fraud in taxpayer-funded day care providers in the state.

State Rep. Kristin Robbins, chairwoman of the Minnesota Fraud Committee and a GOP candidate for governor, revealed that she had informed the Walz administration about her concerns after a hearing on day care fraud in February 2024, but her warnings were disregarded.

Gov. Tim Walz ignored repeated warnings that day care centers in Minnesota were potentially defrauding the state, a Republican lawmaker and gubernatorial candidate told The Post. AP

Robbins stated, “I gave the Department of Human Services a list of day care providers receiving over $1 million in state funds with numerous violations, including this day care facility, but no action has been taken. It is alarming to see this ongoing issue despite our repeated alerts.”

Last week, journalist Nick Shirley released viral footage showing seemingly empty day care facilities in Minnesota that were receiving taxpayer funding.

Robbins criticized Walz for ignoring long-standing fraud concerns until recent weeks and called for his resignation over the scandals. She emphasized the need for a new governor to address the issue and uphold a zero-tolerance policy towards fraud.
