Mira Mikati: Bringing Joy to Fashion
In a world that often feels dark and dreary, Mira Mikati has a talent for bringing light and joy into the everyday. With an innate optimism, she infuses her designs with playful elements like colorful characters, uplifting messages, and whimsical motifs such as flowers and butterflies.
For her fall collection, Mikati drew inspiration from Richard Scarry’s beloved illustrated storybooks. Collaborating with the author’s estate, she adorned yellow fleece, hoodies, and shirts with the iconic character Lowly Worm from the Busytown universe, a charming figure that has captured hearts for nearly six decades.
One of the standout pieces of the season featured the message “I think I think too much” emblazoned across the back of a coat, with a matching jacket sporting the phrase “Over Thinker.” Neckties embellished with tube beads added a touch of whimsy, while a double-breasted jacket adorned with fish, butterflies, and flower buttons sparkled like jewels in Mikati’s eyes.
Mikati’s creativity knows no bounds as she reimagines classic pieces with her signature flair. From a crayon-treated Argyle sweater to a cable knit sweater with colorful heart insets, each garment is a work of art. A hand-crocheted paper doll motif adorns a skirt, while a village of embroidered characters adds charm to a Kelly-green shirt.
Known for her statement coats, Mikati didn’t disappoint this season. A tweed coat came to life with embroidered details of a hot air balloon, a house, a shooting star, and a heart. Another coat featured a hidden riddle and answer under the collar, adding an element of surprise.
Amidst the whimsical designs, Mikati included a humble snail with a timely message inspired by the Grateful Dead: “I Need a Miracle.” A tee posed the question, “Can I dream for just 5 more minutes?” These pieces serve as reminders to embrace joy and positivity in everyday life.
As Mikati celebrates the 10th anniversary of her brand, a new flagship store is set to open on Rue d’Alger in Paris. Fans of her playful aesthetic will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in her colorful world and experience the magic of Mira Mikati’s designs firsthand.
