Mohammed Siraj made a significant impact with the ball on Day 1 of the second Test between India and South Africa in Guwahati. He picked up the crucial wicket of Tony de Zorzi, breaking a vital partnership and putting the Proteas in a spot of bother at 246/6.
Siraj’s wicket came in the 82nd over when he bowled a beautiful length ball that seamed away from Zorzi, who ended up edging it to the wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. This dismissal ended a well-built 45-run partnership between de Zorzi and Senuran Muthuswamy.
Despite Siraj’s late strike, South Africa had a solid day with the bat. Openers Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton got them off to a good start before Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav struck to make inroads. Tristan Stubbs and skipper Temba Bavuma then built a strong partnership before Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav picked up crucial wickets.
South Africa will be looking to script history by winning the series 2-0 after their victory in the first Test. On the other hand, India will be eager to bounce back and level the series under Gautam Gambhir’s coaching.
The match is finely poised heading into Day 2, with both teams looking to gain the upper hand. Stay tuned for more updates and live scores from the 2025 IND vs SA 2nd Test.
