Pace bowler Mohammed Siraj has been removed from India’s T20I squad for the matches against Ireland and England to manage his workload. The team is set to play seven T20Is on this tour, which will be followed by an ODI series comprising three matches.
Initially, the team management had rested Siraj for the upcoming home ODI series against Afghanistan, although he was included in the squad for the T20Is in Ireland and England in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. However, Siraj was not included in the squad for the Asian Games 2026, despite the spearhead being named for it by the selection committee.
Siraj participated in the demanding IPL 2026 season with the Gujarat Titans, playing all 17 matches up to the finals. He also took part in the recent one-off Test against Afghanistan in Mullanpur, delivering a total of 13 overs across both innings in their record win.
“Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been withdrawn from India’s squads for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England. Following discussions between the BCCI Medical Team and the Team Management, Siraj has been advised a period of rest as part of his workload management programme,” the official statement from BCCI read.
“The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure adequate recovery ahead of a long international season. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Prasidh Krishna as Siraj’s replacement for both T20I series,” the update continued.
Prasidh Krishna last played a T20I during the 2023 home series against Australia. In that series, his final appearance was during the five-wicket loss in Guwahati, where he recorded figures of 0-68, the most expensive spell by an Indian in T20Is. Despite this, he has since improved, claiming the IPL 2025 Purple Cap and securing 16 wickets in the 2026 season.
India’s updated squad for Ireland and England T20Is: Shreyas Iyer (C), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Shivam Dube, Tilak Varma (VC), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Prasidh Krishna.
Team India’s tour of Ireland and England to begin on June 26
Prasidh Krishna might participate in the two-match T20I series in Ireland, where he made his debut three years ago. The other pace options for India include Arshdeep Singh, newcomer Prince Yadav, and Harshit Rana, who is returning to the squad.
The tour will commence with the first T20I in Belfast on Friday, June 28. India will then proceed to a five-match T20I series against England, starting from July 1.
