A tragic incident unfolded in Mississippi when a mother, Brittney Leigh Hensley, was arrested after her 10-year-old daughter overdosed on prescription drugs as part of a suicide pact they had made. The bond for Hensley was set at $500,000 following her arrest in Alabama, as reported by the Ocean Springs Weekly Record.

The mother and daughter reportedly made the pact on July 6 while staying at a Studio 6 Motel in Ocean Springs. Authorities were called to the hotel just before 6:30 p.m. in response to reports of an overdose. Hensley’s daughter had ingested a significant amount of pills before reconsidering her decision to end her life. The pills were prescribed to Hensley, but it remains unclear why the daughter took them.

Upon arrival, the little girl was found unconscious, and she was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. Hensley fled Mississippi soon after the incident, but detectives were able to track her down in Huntsville, Alabama, where she was detained on October 14. She was extradited back to Mississippi and charged with felony child abuse causing serious bodily harm.

During questioning, Hensley admitted to also taking pills on July 6, but did not provide specifics on the amount or duration of intake. Fortunately, doctors expect Hensley’s daughter to fully recover from the overdose.

This harrowing incident serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and the need for support and intervention for individuals facing emotional distress. It is crucial for families and communities to come together to provide assistance and resources to those in need, especially children who may be struggling with mental health issues.
