Woman Accused of Stabbing 7-Year-Old Son for Making Mess in Rogers Park Apartment
A shocking incident unfolded over the weekend in Rogers Park, as a woman was arrested for allegedly stabbing her 7-year-old son after he made a mess in their apartment. The accused, Llovana Torres, 26, was taken into custody after seeking medical treatment for her son at Evanston Hospital.
According to prosecutors, Torres had stayed up late cleaning their apartment on Friday night, only to wake up to another mess created by her son the following morning. Enraged by the situation, she reportedly struck her son multiple times before he tried to hide in a cabinet under the kitchen sink to escape her wrath.
When attempts to pull him out failed, Torres resorted to grabbing a kitchen knife and allegedly stabbed him repeatedly. The boy’s screams prompted her to take him to her mother’s apartment downstairs, where the grandmother insisted on seeking medical help for the child.
The boy was airlifted to Lurie Children’s Hospital from Evanston Hospital, where he remained on a ventilator following the incident. Torres reportedly confessed to hospital staff about stabbing her son, initially claiming it was an accident when speaking to the Chicago Police Department.
During a court appearance, Judge Sabra Ebersole ordered Torres to be detained on a charge of aggravated battery of a child under 13. The severity of the situation has raised concerns and highlighted the importance of addressing mental health and parenting challenges.
