Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim Embrace Femininity in Monse Collection
After stepping down from their roles as creative directors at Oscar de la Renta, Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim are reveling in the newfound freedom of focusing solely on their own line, Monse. Kim expressed, “We usually divide our brain, one side for Monse, one side for Oscar, and now this is just going to be us. I think it’s going to be a little more feminine going forward.”
This shift towards femininity was evident in the soft baby blue and ballet pink color palette, as well as in the cherry motif hand-drawn by Garcia that was incorporated throughout the collection. The cherry motif was beautifully showcased in layered Venetian lace slip dresses and on an elegant draped gown adorned with silver cherry baubles. While these feminine elements were a highlight, the collection remained true to Monse’s signature aesthetic.
The classic Monse style was still prevalent in the deconstructed button-down shirts transformed into dresses and skirts, a bustier crafted from pieced-together waistbands, and modern tailoring with a twist. One standout piece featured a simple tailored shift dress with an oversized tie at the shoulder, showcasing the designers’ innovative approach to traditional silhouettes.
Despite the infusion of femininity, the collection stayed grounded in the designers’ down-to-earth energy. Garcia emphasized, “It’s about a sense of ease and comfort,” highlighting the brand’s commitment to creating wearable yet fashion-forward pieces.
