Amber Snow, a 36-year-old mother from Iowa, has been accused of a shocking crime – giving a pregnant relative a lasagna laced with opioids in an attempt to induce a miscarriage. The incident took place just three days after Christmas last year, when Snow allegedly mixed oxycodone into the pasta dish and delivered it to the pregnant woman’s family.
The victim’s family became suspicious of the “family size” pan of pasta and alerted authorities in January. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation tested the lasagna and confirmed the presence of oxycodone, a potent narcotic. Police also discovered evidence of internet searches related to the crime, as well as messages and phone conversations with a suspected co-conspirator. Additional arrests are expected in connection to the case.
It is not clear whether the pregnant woman consumed the tainted lasagna, but fortunately, the fetus was unharmed. The baby’s current status has not been disclosed by authorities. Snow shares a minor child with a member of the victim’s family, who was aware of the tainted lasagna and objected to Snow delivering it.
The motive behind Snow’s alleged actions remains unknown. Oxycodone use during pregnancy can have serious consequences, including the risk of opioid withdrawal symptoms in newborns, as noted by the Mayo Clinic.
This disturbing incident highlights the potential dangers of drug tampering and the lengths to which some individuals may go to achieve their harmful intentions. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and caution, especially when it comes to food safety and protecting vulnerable individuals.
