MP Materials Corp. (NYSE:MP) has recently made headlines as one of the best performing mid cap stocks in 2025, with a groundbreaking partnership announcement with tech giant Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). This $500 million agreement signifies a long-term commitment to supply US-manufactured, sustainable rare earth magnets, setting the stage for sustainable and domestic supply chains for both companies.

The partnership will see MP Materials manufacturing these magnets at its Fort Worth, Texas facility, named Independence. What sets these magnets apart is that they will be produced entirely from 100% recycled materials. The rare earth feedstock used for these magnets will be processed at MP Materials’ Mountain Pass site in California, the only active rare earth mining and processing facility in the United States. This feedstock will be sourced from post-industrial waste and end-of-life products, such as magnet scrap and components, further emphasizing the sustainability aspect of this collaboration.

This collaboration is the culmination of nearly 5 years of joint development between Apple and MP Materials, during which they have worked on advanced recycling technology to meet Apple’s stringent performance and design criteria for these magnets. In line with a recent public-private partnership with the US Department of Defense, MP Materials will expand the capacity of its Fort Worth magnetics facility to include neodymium magnet production lines specifically tailored for Apple products.

MP Materials Corp. operates in two segments: Materials and Magnetics, and this partnership with Apple marks a significant milestone in their journey towards sustainability and innovation. While MP Materials shows promise as an investment opportunity, there are other AI stocks that may offer greater upside potential with less downside risk.
