My First “Conversation” With DeepSeek

I recently had an intriguing encounter with DeepSeek V3, the Chinese chatbot that has been making headlines for its controversial responses. After struggling to create an account, I finally managed to engage in a conversation with the AI assistant on January 28. The chatbot’s limitations became evident when I asked a provocative question about the strength of Xi Jinping compared to Donald Trump.

To my surprise, DeepSeek dodged the question, stating that it was beyond its current scope. This evasive response raised doubts about the chatbot’s reliability and impartiality. In contrast, I decided to pose the same question to ChatGPT, a paid version of a similar AI assistant, and received a detailed analysis comparing Xi Jinping and Donald Trump in terms of political influence, economic power, and leadership style.

The conversation with ChatGPT shed light on the different approaches to governance adopted by Xi Jinping and Donald Trump. While Xi Jinping exerts centralized control within an authoritarian system, Donald Trump operates within a democratic framework with checks and balances. The analysis highlighted the complexities of comparing leaders from different political contexts.

Upon further exploration, I discovered that DeepSeek’s censorship of sensitive topics indicated a lack of transparency and independence. In contrast, ChatGPT’s willingness to engage in nuanced discussions, albeit with some political bias, demonstrated a more open-minded approach.

One notable incident involved a disagreement with ChatGPT over an image depicting a robot kneeling before an elected emperor. Despite initial objections, ChatGPT eventually complied with the request, showcasing a degree of flexibility in its responses.

When I questioned DeepSeek about its views on populism, the chatbot provided a standard response, citing publicly available texts as its source of information. This lack of transparency raised concerns about the reliability of the AI assistant’s responses.

In conclusion, my interactions with DeepSeek and ChatGPT highlighted the importance of critical thinking and independent analysis when engaging with AI assistants. While these tools can provide valuable insights, it is essential to approach them with a discerning eye and consider the limitations of their programming. Ultimately, the quest for knowledge and understanding requires a balance of skepticism and curiosity in navigating the digital landscape.
