Nancy Guthrie, 84, mysteriously disappeared after being dropped off at her home in Catalina Foothills on January 31 following a dinner with her daughter and son-in-law. The following day, she was nowhere to be found, leaving behind only her personal belongings, traces of blood, and disturbing footage from her Nest camera showing a masked man.
Former FBI agent Andrew Bringuel, now a private security consultant in New York, has speculated that the intruder’s initial intention was not to harm Nancy fatally. In an interview with Newsweek, Bringuel suggested that the perpetrator likely intended to abduct Nancy, but a violent altercation ensued, resulting in her being injured but not killed.
“It is evident from the evidence that violence occurred, but the kidnapper did not have the intention of murdering Nancy,” Bringuel explained. “If the assailant had wanted to kill her, he had the means to do so readily available. The fact that he resorted to violence leading to Nancy’s injury indicates that his primary objective was abduction.”
Bringuel speculated that the suspect may have underestimated Nancy’s ability to defend herself, leading to the violent confrontation. “If Nancy put up a fight, the assailant likely reacted by causing her harm. This unexpected turn of events may have resulted in unintended consequences for the perpetrator,” he added.
