A Navy veteran and father of four met a tragic end during a dramatic daytime shootout with Texas police officers in early June. The newly released bodycam footage reveals a disturbing confrontation where the man seemed to provoke the officers into firing at him.

Salvador Valdiviezo, 35, was fatally shot while a female officer was injured on June 1 when El Paso Police Department officers responded to a family violence call in a residential neighborhood.

The officers encountered an armed Valdiviezo in the driveway of the home. Despite the female officer’s commands to surrender, he opened fire.

The officers exchanged gunfire with Valdiviezo, with roughly two dozen shots fired during the intense 40-second confrontation.

Valdiviezo was struck at least twice in the chest and once in the leg, resulting in his death. The female officer also suffered a gunshot wound to the leg but managed to apply a tourniquet to stop the bleeding.

Valdiviezo, a registered nurse and Navy veteran, was honorably discharged from the military, though the details of his service remain unclear. El Paso Police Dept.
