Scottish impressionist Stanley Baxter was renowned for his brilliant impersonations of celebrities, especially women. One of his famous characters was the “Duchess of Brendagh,” believed to be based on Queen Elizabeth II. Baxter, who was born in Glasgow, honed his skills by entertaining troops during his time in the British Army’s Combined Services Entertainment unit.

He made his professional stage debut in 1949 and later transitioned to television with successful shows like The Stanley Baxter Show (1963-71) and The Stanley Baxter Picture Show (1972-75). Despite facing challenges with production costs, Baxter continued to work in radio and even made a comeback on TV in the mid-80s as Mr Majeika, a character in a popular series.

After retiring, Baxter released his autobiography in 2020 before passing away on December 11 at the age of 99.
