Immigration New Zealand has reported a significant influx of visa applications from Israeli, Palestinian, and Iranian nationals following the recent conflict between Israel and Iran. Since June 1, 2025, a total of 277 offshore visa applications have been received, with the majority coming from Iranian nationals.

The conflict between Israel and Iran escalated on June 13 when Israel launched an air attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, resulting in the deaths of top military commanders. In response to the crisis, Immigration New Zealand expressed sympathy for those affected by the situation and acknowledged the challenges faced by families separated during this stressful time.

According to Marcelle Foley, the acting director of visas at INZ, 230 visa applications were submitted by Iranian nationals, with 93 approvals and 7 rejections. Additionally, 41 applications were from Israeli nationals, of which 24 were approved, one was declined, and the rest are still being processed. Six applications were also submitted by Palestinian nationals, with two approvals and the remaining under assessment.

INZ also disclosed that since October 7, 2023, a total of 8634 New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) applications have been granted to Israeli nationals. Israeli citizens visiting New Zealand are not required to apply for a visitor visa but must obtain an NZeTA due to Israel’s visa waiver status.

Overall, the surge in visa applications reflects the impact of the conflict on individuals from these nations and underscores the need for streamlined immigration processes during times of crisis.
