Netflix in Talks to License Video Podcasts from iHeartMedia
According to a report by Bloomberg, Netflix is currently in discussions to license video podcasts from iHeartMedia. This move could potentially bring popular shows like “The Breakfast Club,” “Las Culturistas,” “Jay Shetty Podcast,” and “Stuff You Should Know” to the streaming platform.
Netflix is said to be seeking exclusivity in this deal, which would mean that any video podcasts licensed from iHeartMedia would no longer be available on YouTube. However, it is important to note that not all podcasts from iHeartMedia may be included in this potential agreement.
This news follows a recent deal between Netflix and Spotify, where a curated selection of sports, culture, lifestyle, and true crime podcasts from Spotify Studios and The Ringer will be available on Netflix. Under this agreement, podcasts will be removed from YouTube but remain on Spotify, with some exceptions like “The Joe Rogan Experience” which will continue to be on YouTube.
By securing these video podcast deals, Netflix aims to enhance its offering and better compete with YouTube, which currently holds the title of the most-watched platform for video podcasts with over 1 billion monthly active viewers. This strategic move could open up new opportunities for Netflix to attract and engage audiences in a different format.
