Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière, the dynamic duo behind the successful film “The Count of Monte Cristo,” are venturing into the world of television with their first series in collaboration with Pathé and Netflix. The upcoming series, titled “Les brumes,” is a suspense thriller based on Olivier Norek’s book “Dans les brumes de Capelans.”
The plot of the six-part series revolves around an enigmatic killer who vanishes after a series of murders, leaving behind Anna, a mute young woman who is the sole survivor. She is hastily taken to a remote Atlantic island where she encounters Victor Coste, a police officer who has secluded himself from society. Victor is tasked with the mission of making Anna speak, identifying the killer, and preventing further bloodshed. However, as a thick fog envelops the island, turning it into a perilous trap, a race against time ensues.
The filming for “Les brumes” is set to commence on January 13 in France and Ireland, with a stellar French cast that includes Pio Marmaï, Alice Da Luz, Bouli Lanners, Stéphane Caillard, and more. Delaporte and de La Patellière will be taking on the roles of directors alongside Thierry Poiraud.
Produced by Aude Albano at Pathé in collaboration with Fargo Films, the series marks a reunion between the filmmakers and Pathé, who previously worked together on “The Count of Monte Cristo.” The epic film, which garnered over 9 million admissions in France and became the second highest-grossing French film of 2024, was a testament to their successful partnership. Delaporte and de La Patellière have also collaborated on Pathé’s “The Three Musketeers” saga.
Looking ahead, the duo is gearing up for their English language feature debut with “The Iron King,” based on Maurice Druon’s “Les Rois Maudits” book series. With a track record of delivering compelling storytelling and captivating audiences, Delaporte and de La Patellière are set to make a splash in the world of television with “Les brumes” and beyond.
