Brock Purdy led the San Francisco 49ers to a thrilling 23-19 victory over Jalen Hurts’ Philadelphia Eagles in the wild-card round on Sunday. The game was a nail-biter until the very end, with San Francisco running back Christian McCaffrey scoring a crucial touchdown with just 2:54 remaining in the fourth quarter to secure the win and knock out the reigning Super Bowl champions from the playoffs.

Following the 49ers’ triumph over the Eagles, right-wing political commentator Nick Adams made a controversial statement, implying that Purdy’s support for U.S. President Donald Trump played a role in the team’s success. Adams tweeted, “Brock Purdy is a huge Trump supporter. Jalen Hurts was a big Kamala supporter. Enough said.”

In a podcast appearance in October 2024, Trump himself praised Purdy, calling him a great player who had proven himself despite being initially overlooked. Purdy showcased his talent in the game against the Eagles, completing 18 of 31 passes for 262 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, while also contributing 24 rushing yards on nine carries.

McCaffrey, on the other hand, had a solid performance with 48 rushing yards on 15 carries and 66 receiving yards with two touchdowns on six receptions. Hurts, the Eagles’ quarterback, went 20 of 35 for 168 yards with one touchdown and added 14 rushing yards on five carries.

Next up for Purdy and the 49ers is a showdown against the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC divisional round of the playoffs. The Seahawks, being the top seed in the conference, will host the game, setting up a highly anticipated rematch between the two teams. This will be the third meeting between the Seahawks and the 49ers this season, with each team having won one game apiece in the regular season.

As they head into the postseason, Purdy and the 49ers will be well aware of the stakes and the need for flawless execution. Purdy, who guided the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2024, will be looking to lead his team to another deep playoff run and potentially another shot at the championship.

The stage is set for an intense battle between two fierce rivals, and fans can expect a thrilling matchup as Purdy and the 49ers look to continue their playoff journey.
